There is a lot in the news lately regarding immunizations and the highly negative stance of the ICPA (International Chiropractic Pediatrics Association). I would like to be very clear right now: I (Dr. Patten) have no opinion. It is not in my scope to have an opinion. I am not an epidemiologist nor am I an immunologist. I do not have the training in vaccinations to stand with the ICPA. Any chiropractor telling you otherwise is not paying attention. Keep in mind, the ICPA is not the ACA (American Chiropractic Association).
This fringe group (ICPA) of extremely vocal and non-scientific members also talk about subluxations and the ills they cause. It is important to know that this is the only time you will ever read or hear me use the word ‘subluxation’. The word ‘Subluxation’ means, literally, ‘partial dislocation’ and it is a radiology term. Many years ago, a few chiropractors adopted the term and changed the definition. At Patten Family Chiropractic, the word means ‘partial dislocation’, and if I do have to use the word in a radiology report, it usually comes with an orthopedic consult.
Manipulative therapy has been shown through peer-reviewed literature to help with: neck pain, back pain and headaches. That’s what we, as chiropractors, do. We help with musculoskeletal injuries. There is no philosophy here, just evidence-based healthcare. I will help you get better as fast as possible and let you get back to normal.
